What we're listening to: Norah Jones 'Come Away with Me'

2002, 'Come Away with me' is New Yorker Norah Jones (actually Geetali Shankar! but changed her name at 16) first full length Album and multiple (5) Grammy winner with over 30 million copies sold.

Recorded in New York it's pop but with a jazz twist (Bill Frisell plays guitar on this for example - true jazzman). People box off Norah as "a poppy queen" but that's a mistake. Her own influences are Billie Holiday and the great, Bill Evans and this Album came from 'Blue Note Records'. So jazz to the core and country (she grew up in Texas).

This will give you a sense why not - a cover of Hank Williams country 'Cold cold heart'. Her second Album 'Feels like home' is very country and she was a part of Dylan's 'Hank Williams Project'.

But the big singles were the excellent 'Don't know why' and 'Come away with me' - both are below.

You may not know that she's the daughter of Ravi Shankar (Famous Indian Sitar player and you'll know him best probably from his work with George Harrison. He died in 2012).

She's a jazz pianist but also a sax player.

Another great Album that Streamabout recommends!
