What we're listening to: Mink De Ville 'Backstreets of Desire'

So following last week's Blog, here too is someone you might not know but then, it's all part of the Service (!). The Streamabout crew heard it and first went, "weird" and then went, "Great weird!". It is both.

Willy De Ville or, Mink De Ville or, aka William Borsey, was an American born singer/songwriter (he died in 2009) of Irish/Spanish descent. Kinda' Blues, Kinda' Cajun, Kinda' Soul, it's a pretty wide palette but very Latin at the core. A mongrel.

Sometimes you get an Album for one track and this is definitely one of those. Just hear his superb mariachi version of 'Hey Joe' and you'll understand that Latin vibe. So too, the 'Spanish Stroll' track.

A huge John Hammond fan ("So many roads" Album changed his life he said) his 'Le Chat Bleu' Album got huge attention in 1980 and this 'Backstreets of Desire' Album was 1992.

It features some of the 'Los Lobos' crew, Dr John and the fab sideman, Jeff 'The Skunk' Baxter. Actually, it has a cast of thousands and did very well with Gold sales.

The cover pic is at a shrine in New Orleans and suitably, Willy was a heroin addict and suffered from Hepatitis C so in some ways, it's a picture that sums him all up.

Get it, you'll enjoy something different and brilliant. Go on, listen to this 'Hey Joe' and tell me it's not sensational.....
