One from the past, from 1978 (in fact they broke up in 1988). The Cars debut Album which showcased the talents of Ric Ocasek as the writer of pop tunes. One after the other.
The Album cover is also iconic in days when such things mattered. Shame really....
Considered (bizarrely) as a band being part of the 'new wave' scene, which comes really from the edgy vocal.
The band from Boston, broke through with "My Best Friends Girl" from this record (which Nirvana used to play in their live set. Honest!). You might know "Just what I needed", "Good times roll" and "Moving in Stereo" but this is one hit after another. Summery music, adult orientated radio rock.
It is though, a classic in a way.
Perhaps not a masterpiece, but a great trip down memory lane if you're in the mood. The Streamabout crew, being largely under 40, hadn't heard it and liked it, a lot. One worth another listen we suggest.
