What we're listening to. Steely Dan 'Pretzel Logic'.

Another from The Dan with 'Can't buy a thrill' (their debut) and 'Aja' already featured here on this blog, as well as Donald Fagen's 'Nightfly'. Pretzel Logic was their 3rd Album from 1974 featuring Jeff 'The Skunk' Baxter and produced by Gary Katz. In true Dan fashion too, a list of the A studio sidemen of the day featured.

Steely Dan were never really a "band" as such, but rather a collection of musicians under Becker/Fagen's guidance.

The terrific cover shot is taken at 5th and 79th street NYC at a place called 'Miners Gate'.

"Rikki don't lose that number" was of course, the single and the Album sold very well from the start (as it followed 1973's 'Countdown to Ecstasy' which wasn't so well received) and this Album was NME's Album of the Year - so to good critical acclaim. Rightly so. The opening and title track (which you can hear below are superb).

It's very jazzy and harmony led with great production and very typical of The Steely Dan sound.

Highly recommended.
