What we're listening to: Rory Gallagher 'Live in europe'

There's a possibility you have never heard of this or indeed, him, but he's someone who a lot of guitarists looked up to - Stevie Ray for one, no less.

He was an Irish blues guitarist (Donegal born but considered more Cork) and this is recordings from his European tour in 1972 as a three piece. Melody Makers guitarist of the year in 72, pushing Clapton into second place. He died in 1995 at only 47 from liver failure.

It was said that when Hendrix was asked what it was like to be the world's greatest guitarist, he answered that he didn't know because you'd have to ask Rory Gallagher. He was held in huge regard and you can hear what Brian May (Queen) says about him below ("I owe him my sound").  And 'Slash'.

They are classic blues songs and 'Messin with the kid', 'I could have had religion' and particularly 'Bullfrog Blues' are standouts. All with a Fender Strat.

It's a great rockin' album.

It will turn your head around and maybe interest you in something you didn't know. Hope so.
