What we're listening to: Peter Gabriel 'So'.

Peter Gabriel's 5th Album post Genesis from 1986 with the cracking 'Sledgehammer' single. Produced by Daniel Lanois, it was a commercial hit immediately and still is considered his best Album. And, his best selling.

Recorded at his home with guitarist David Rhodes to get the basic tracks down and then it got built from there. A huge focus on that production sound nearly drove everyone mad.

"Don't give up" is a great song (featuring Kate Bush), so too 'In your eyes' but generally a great record that weaves in world music with simple melodies.

Remember too, this was the MTV generation of video. Few will ever match this clay animation/stop motion video (Aardman animation did it) for 'Sledgehammer' and Gabriel was very visual.

Notoriously so.

Enjoy it. But this still has that WOW! Have a look....
